I have enjoyed learning about Irenaeus and the other Fathers in you book "The Fathers Of The Church". I am halfway done, and it's an easy read with lots of meat!
It is amazing how much the Church has had to put up with through its 2000 year history.

Hi Mike;

I've always liked Irenaeus, even before I became Christian. I remember reading him for a paper I did in a Classical Studies course on the Gnostics and the canon. That is, I think, where I developed my distaste for Gnostics. Mind you, I've read a fair amount of Gnostics stuff over the years and keep a couple collections of them in my Heretics Corner of my bookshelf. You never know when it is useful to check a reference. With Da Vinci Code, having them around has come in really handy.

In later years, I've re-read Irenaeus. I remember a few years back being blown away by his writing on the Incarnation which is a part of the Adversus Haereses which many people, nay-sayers and supporters, forget about. That alone makes it worth a re-read.

Peace,
Phil

You are right. Poor editing on my part. I'll correct the post, so there's no bad info about. Thanks, Patrik.
