One of my favorite bands in the 1990s was Stinging Rain. I just discovered that Pauli Fry, SR’s bass player, is blogging on the band’s music. Their last album is available for download here.

I’d classify their music as alternative rock, with patristically informed lyrics.

Isn’t that how Rolling Stone magazine described them, too?

First Dion, now Stinging Rain! So Mike, how is it that so many modern musicians feature “patristically informed lyrics”? Inquiring minds want to know!

Kyle: I think you’re remembering the cover story in Circus magazine.

Carl: There’s only so much they can say about love. At a certain point, any serious songwriter has to turn to patristics.
