More parts of the Aurelian statue have come to light, including a fancy-sandaled imperial foot. The site is that of Sagalassos, which has been turning up interesting things almost from the beginning of excavation.

The emperor's (somewhat trite) Meditations attest, in the snippet on the Christians, their fierce rejection of apostasy; his spin on their choice is clear. Being given the choice to "merely" recant their allegiance to Christ and to sacrifice to the false gods, which some of the weaker Christians certainly did, some others were "violently and passionately set upon opposition" to this apostasy. The Romans, in their pseudo-liberality so similar to today's, "had no choice" but to kill them.
